I feel that the lower seletar trail is a fun and exciting one. I get to know more about Singapore's water resources and the efforts the government make to conserve water resources. The school also did a fantastic job in teaching us about our water resources. The five stations are very interesting and I get to know how precious water is to me and that I should play a part in conserving our limited water supply for our next generation. I also get to enjoy the scenery around us as we head to the following stations, and it helps me to realize the hard work the government did to make our reservoirs a resource for our water supply and for our recreational activities. It has been an eye opening for me and I hope that the school will have more of such activities in the future.
Reflection by Fung Ying Jie:
Overall,
I think that the ABC (Active, Beautiful, Clean water for all) programme was
meaningful and exciting. The ABC programme is PUB’s long-term initiatives to
see the transformation of our network of drains, canals and reservoirs into
beautiful and clean streams that are well integrated with surrounding parks and
green space, to bring people closer to nature. The Lower Seletar Reservoir was
opened in June 2010. It consists of a Family and Rower’s Bay, to create focal
point for residents in the area. The trail brought out in an Amazing Race form
makes the trail interesting, unlike other boring field trip. From the trail, I
have learnt about Singapore’s plan to meet with water shortage. That is to
increase our water catchment areas and supply of NEWater. These plans do not
require us to rely on other countries; hence it would help us greatly. It is
known to all of us that it is also the community’s responsibility in looking
after the reservoir. We learnt from the trail too that the community can help
by firstly, not to litter, secondly, to help promote the place and lastly, to
enjoy the reservoir fully. J To
sum up, I would like to encourage everyone to come down to Lower Seletar
Reservoir to enjoy! Activities other than kayaking, fishing, cycling or
jogging, you might not know, you can even play golf here! Most of all, you can
enjoy the beautiful stunning scenery, you can also try to spot some of the
following animals!

Reflection by Chau Wing Wei:
Through this trail, I have learnt first hand how important it is for us to keep our waters active, beautiful and clean. Water is part and parcel of our daily lives, we cannot survive without water. Thus, we must all play a part in keeping up our water supply.
As it was raining the day I was at the reservoir, I had the opportunity to see how exactly the reservoir collects the water for our use. Our reservoirs are beautiful with sparkling and active waters where people may participate in water sports as a source of entertainment.
The trail also taught me that we are very lucky to have sufficient water as many others do not, we should not flaunt it and instead, preserve what we have.
Lower Seletar Resevoir is a beautiful park and let us keep it that way.

I feel that the ABC (Active, Beautiful & Clean waters for all) is extremely meaningful and fun. The ABC programme is PUB’s long-term initiatives to see the transformation of our network of drains, canals and reservoirs into beautiful and clean streams that are well integrated with surrounding parks and green space, to bring people closer to nature. The ABC programme was organised in an 'Amazing Race' format, which made it very thrilling-not like the usual boring learning journeys. There were 5 stations, each educating us about Singapore's waters. I learnt that Singapore is increasing catchment areas to collect more rainwater to be treated and used by the people. I think that it is a brilliant tactic as this way we no longer need to depend on other countries for our water supply, we have our very own NEWater to provide enough water for the population. Water is a limited source thus we should treasure every single drop of it. In all, I would like to encourage netizens to head down to Lower Seletar Reservoir. There are many activities that can be done there, like fishing, jogging, kayaking, etc... But do remember to not pollute the waters there. As a country, let's aim to keep the waters in Singapore Active, Beautiful and Clean for all to share!!!

I think that the Active Beautiful Clean programme (ABC) is a fun, interesting and meaningful activity that allows us, students, to get away from the classroom and experience things first hand. This allows us to learn even more things and understand more clearly how most of our water supply comes from. The government has made the reservoirs a crucial part of our lives and that all citizens will need the reservoirs. The reservoirs and us are like fingers and fingernails as we can't be separated from each other. If we do not have the reservoirs, much of our water supply would be missing. It would be very dangerous especially for a country like Singapore. Singapore has no natural resources and our only resource is man power, but even our manpower is very limited. Singapore also lies in the equator, so without the reservoirs, the heat and temperature would make us dehydrated and may even die of thirst, if that happens, even our only resource would die out. The same goes for the reservoirs, without us, the reservoirs would have absolutely no visitors, and it would be "dead" instead of active. The reservoirs would also become very dirty without the man-made litter trap. If not for the litter trap, the water in the reservoirs would be utterly polluted and dirty due to the fallen leaves from the trees. Not only that, the animals living in the reservoirs like the kingfishers and fishes might die and affect the entire eco-system there.
So, we have to love the reservoirs and not litter in the drains as the drains all lead to the reservoirs. Singapore is also striving to become a city of gardens and water. In order to do that, the government already made most of Singapore a water-catchment area as well as a recreational ground. Foe example, most of the land in Singapore are reservoirs and the reservoirs are also made into parks for people nearby to take a relaxing stroll or go there to fish, go picnicking and spend quality time with their family. However, it is not enough to let our government do everything. This vision must be made known to every single citizen in Singapore and ask everyone of them to not only support it but cooperate with the government to ensure that this vision could come true. Of course, there would be people who just refuse to cooperate. That is why, I am proposing that the community could organize marathons, walkathons and make banners to encourage more people to come to our reservoirs. By doing that, I believe more people would know how precious water could be to us and how crucial it is for us to save water. Friends and neighbours can also help each other to save water by reminding each other what they could do to conserve water and also not waste necessary money on their water bills.
Overall, I want to conclude that although the ABC programme is meant for secondary school students to participate in it, we could also allow people from various ages to join in the fun and learn different things ant the 5 different stations, differing in English, History, Geography and Science. I believe that if we do this, the ABC programme would end up playing a extremely important role in making Singapore a city of Gardens and Water and the reservoirs in Singapore would be active, beautiful and clean forever and always.

After my visit to the beautiful Lower Seletar Reservoir for a learning trail, I had gained lots of knowledge about Singapore's water resources. Our local catchment water is one of our 4 national tap where rainwater is collected through a comprehensive networks of drains, canals, rivers and reservoirs. Lower Seletar Reservoir is currently one of the 17 reservoirs in Singapore.
I find the ABC Learning Trail ( Active, Beautiful, Clean water) is an interesting and an eye-opener for everyone. It has allow us to have a better understanding on how Singapore ensured everyone to be able to be provided with clean water to drink. The whole trail consist of 5 stations where students will have to complete all the activities given to them in an "Amazing Race" style, by doing so, students can both have fun and gained new knowledge in the process rather than the old boring excursions. The 5 stations- Heritage Panels, Heritage Deck Viewing Gallery, Fishing Jetty, litter Trap and Rain Garden each consist of interesting activity where some subjects were involved. My favourite station was the Fishing Jetty where we had to do Water Quality Testing to test whether the water is safe for human contact and drinking. We had to test for debris and smell, colour, turbidity, temperature, dissolved oxygen and the pH level of the water. We had lots of fun doing the test and we concluded that the water quality was good.
I feel that keeping our water clean is very important, if we continue to pollute our water, our water resource would be reduced. Everyone can play a small part by not littering into rivers, canals and reservoirs, it is our responsibility to keep our water clean as it is crucial for survival.
I would like to encourage everyone to come down and visit Lower Seletar Reservoir to enjoy themselves like jogging, kayaking, cycling, fishing and even enjoy the breathe- taking scenery. I bet you will not regret after going Lower Seletar Reservoir! So don't miss this fantastic opportunity!

Reflection by Siong Yew:
After going for the ABC programme at Lower Seletar Reservoir, I learnt about how the reservoir is maintained and kept clean, its history and purpose, especially the importance of this scarce resource. A litter trap is placed tactically at the mouth of the canal feeding the reservoir to trap litter. In the litter trap, I saw wrappers and containers which is the waste of humans. We should not be so inconsiderate as this water will soon go into our tap and Singapore is short of this precious resource, so we must treasure it. (Clean) We also visited the rain garden where plants are grown to hold the soil and reduce the amount of nutrients that flow into the river. This is a excellent idea as not only did it serve its purpose, it also beautify the place and attract all sorts of animals such as the little heron and the collared kingfisher. (Beautiful) To safe space, the Government has also made it a recreational ground. We can fish, canoe or have a relaxing stroll under the trees accompanied with all the beautiful flowers. There is even a mini golf course nearby, making it a perfect place for a family outing. (Active) But this reservoir and the other 16 reservoir is one of the 4 taps in Singapore, who does not have any natural resource, is critically important, without it we might face water crisis. So I will conserve it by saving water and not littering, I will also encourage others to do the same. It was great of PUB to organize such a enriching and meaning programme where we can learn about water through a effective and fun way. Overall, Lower Seletar Reservoir is a beautiful place where lots of activities can be enjoyed and at the same time, learn about it. It is a must see place and should be put in the list of place-of-interest.

The trail has helped me understand that the ABC programme that promotes the awareness of the importance of water in Singapore, and how water has benefited our nation throughout the years. I've also learnt more about the four national taps of Singapore, namely the local catchment areas, imported water, NEWater and desalinated water.

Active - Singapore was actively promoted water sports by turning the various reservoirs to not only a source of water but also a recreational area forthe people residing in the area.
Beautiful - Singapore spent a lot of money to beautify the reservoir. They plante trees and many colourful plants to add colour to the reservoir , giving it a "natural" touch to all the bustling traffic around.
Clean – Singapore uses natural methods like The Rain Garden to remove excess nutrients which are present in the rain water. This method has prevented the deaths of many fishes and overgrowth of algae in the water. Filters have also been installed at the month of the reservoir, to remove the twigs and leaves floating on the water surface.
We can create awareness of the importance of the reservoir by giving out pamphlets and telling our friends and families.
The reservoirs are very crucial part of our daily lives, without it, we may not have enough water to provide for our daily need. The community should visit the reservoir frequently and be mindful when it comes to cleaniness.
